The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a warning that former President Donald Trump’s proposed policies, including higher blanket tariffs of up to 20%, lower taxes, and immigration restrictions, could lead to increased inflation and prevent the Federal Reserve from cutting interest rates. The IMF has revised its growth forecast for the U.S. economy in 2025, raising it to 2.7% from the previous estimate of 2.2%, while lowering expectations for the Eurozone. Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, the IMF’s chief economist, highlighted that these policies could result in a combination of heightened demand and reduced supply, potentially reigniting inflationary pressures in the U.S.
